In the spring of 2018, Hollywood legend Richard Gere married Alejandra Silva, a 37-year-old Spanish activist. As if that wasn’t enough, the couple welcomed their first child, Alexander, into the world the following winter. However, word of another controversial statement for the Gere family recently leaked out. Despite this, the star had tried to keep what he does for his wife on a daily basis a complete secret… until now.
She Kept It Private
The Geres, on the other hand, are particularly skilled at surprising an unsuspecting public. Silva, for example, had gone months without saying anything about her pregnancy with Alexander, and no one had known. In fact, she didn’t confirm the pregnancy until December 2018, just two months before the due date. Even then, it had been in a circuitous route.
Making The Announcement
When Silva was ready to make the official announcement about the upcoming child, she had first questioned the Dalai Lama, the religious leader of Tibetan Buddhism, to bless the child. Silva then posted a photo on Instagram with the caption, “We couldn’t announce it before telling H.H. [His Holiness] Dalai Lama.” after he’d done so. “Soy muy Feliz! … I’m so happy!” she added. “…I’m overjoyed!” But that wasn’t the only aspect of Gere and Silva’s relationship that surprised the actor’s fans.
How Did They Meet?
Like when fans learned how the star met Silva for the first time. Because Gere has been a family friend for a long time, Silva had only been a child when she first met him. When the two ran into each other again in 2014, things were drastically different. Silva, for one thing, was an adult who worked as the manager of a hotel in Positano, Italy. They also fell in love for another reason.
The Cupid
A mutual acquaintance brought the two together at the time. And it appears that it was fireworks from the start, with both parties feeling a “very strong connection.” Gere responded by showering Silva with flowers, which prompted her to agree to a date. Since then, the actor has continued to make romantic gestures, such as what he does for her on a daily basis. But anyone who knows their astounding love story knows this isn’t surprising.
She Felt A Strong Connection
“A friend introduced us; we looked at each other and felt a very strong connection,” Silva told the Daily Mail in 2014. It also appears that it wasn’t just a single glance. “We couldn’t stop looking at each other all night – and since then we haven’t been apart.” she kept going. To be with Gere, the Spaniard even relocated to New York!
Religion
Silva embraced the actor’s religious practices as she got to know him better. She told Hello! magazine in 2018 that she had converted to Buddhism. “I’ll be eternally grateful to him. No doubt about it, thanks to Buddhism my life has changed,” she stated. And Gere has a slew of other ways to express his affection for Silva.
Destined To Be Together
The relationship was not without its difficulties, as both lovers were going through divorces at the time. “Love stories with a complicated beginning, where you have to overcome difficulties together, can bring you closer… In the beginning, he was more convinced than me. But from very early on, we felt that we were destined to be together.”
Facing Struggles
The couple’s struggle with divorce is not the only possible problem they faced. There is a significant age difference between Gere and Silva, with Gere being more than three decades Silva’s senior. But, as Silva told Hello!, love triumphed. “In this life, it had to be like this,” she explained. “He has promised me at least 20 good years!” And 20 years of Gere expressing his love in unique ways every day? Isn’t that good?
Head Over Heels
“I have to confess that he has much more energy than me; he’s much more active.” Silva continued. “I find it hard to keep up with him. He’s not human!” exclaims the narrator. Those close to the couple appear to believe the actor is head over heels in love. “He knows I love him madly,” Silva said. “I think I bring him stability. Above all, it helped I wasn’t an actress or a model. I never had any interest in that.”
What Is He Like?
“He is the most humble, sensitive, affectionate, attentive, funny, generous man that I’ve ever met. What can I say? I’m so in love! How would you feel if each morning you were asked, ‘What would make you happy today?’ Not a day goes by that he doesn’t mention how important I am to him. I feel very lucky.” With that kind of love, it’s no shock that the couple married – in secret.
The Proposal
Silva reminisced about Gere proposing to her. “This was really a private moment, just for the two of us, but what I can tell you is that he asked me to marry him in the most romantic hotel I’ve been to, in St Paul de Vence [in the South of France], on my birthday. I get emotional just remembering it.”
She Was Completely Carried Away
The couple married in April 2018, and it was a romantic affair. Silva waxed lyrical about the wedding, which took place at Gere’s New York state ranch. She said, “I feel like I’m in a true fairytale,” “Without a doubt, I feel like the luckiest woman in the world.” And, as you might expect, the day was both exotic and lavish.
The Wedding
The couple even had tents carried in from Jaipur to make the ranch look like something out of an Indian myth. They also placed flowers and Tibetan prayer flags throughout the area. Everybody was ready for the occasion because their family visitors had shown up a week before. The mode of transportation that the couple used to get to their wedding may have stunned the guests.
In A Tuk-Tuk
Gere and Silva arrived in a tuk-tuk, which explains why. “Richard was driving. It was very funny since nobody expected it.” She also revealed what Gere said to her when he first saw his bride-to-be in her wedding gown. He said Silva was “was the most spectacular woman he had ever seen.” she said.
What They Have In Common
However, this appears to be a relationship that goes beyond the surface. “What has united us the most is our desire to help other people who need it, our commitment to Buddhism and the Tibetan people. And he was able to see my unconditional commitment as a humanitarian, as a person, as a woman… It’s the sweetest, the most romantic dream I’ve ever had. That’s why I’ve decided to stay in it!”
Celebration Lasted For A Month
And, as if that wasn’t enough, the couple continued to celebrate their union throughout the month of May. They even threw a Cinco de Mayo party at their ranch in Pound Ridge, New York. The couple welcomed a group of Tibetan monks to the party, so there were some additional guests.
How Does He Feel?
When Hello! approached Gere for a meeting in June 2018, he didn’t hold back when it came to his feelings for Silva. “I’m the happiest man in the universe. How could I not be?” says the narrator. He, too, was eager to share his thoughts with the publication. This may also explain his day-to-day behavior.
Silva’s Qualities
Silva’s qualities were then listed by the American Gigolo star. “I’m married to a beautiful woman who is smart, sensitive, committed to helping people, who are fun, patient, who knows how to forgive, who’s a great cook — and who makes the best salads in the world!” he exclaimed.
What Else Does He Like About Her?
Even more desirable qualities of his wife were listed by the Hollywood legend. “Alejandra meditates, she’s a vegetarian, a great mother, has the touch of an angel and she’s also Spanish — the land of kings and queens, of Cervantes and Buñuel. You can’t get any better than that.” That’s possibly why he goes to such lengths to prove to her how he feels each day.
Like A Fairytale
Gere’s wife, on the other hand, had nothing but positive things to say about their relationship. She told Hello! about it, saying, “I feel like I’m in a true fairytale. Without a doubt, I feel like the luckiest woman in the world… What could be more romantic than a man who writes you songs every day?”
They’re Extraordinarily Happy
And it wasn’t just the couple who recognized their fantastic relationship. People reported around the time of their wedding that an insider said the couple was “extraordinarily happy.” “They’re so comfortable with each other, have fun together, and are looking forward to their future together.” the source continued.
Welcoming Their Son
However, Gere and Silva’s good fortune did not end there. That’s because the couple was soon able to welcome a new member of their family. Yes, Alexander, the couple’s son, was born in February of this year. After all of the happy news, the couple shocked fans once more in the fall of 2019 with a major relationship reveal.
They Did Make An Announcement Right Away
Hola!, a Spanish magazine, was the first to report on the story. It also revealed that Silva and Gere were expecting their second child. According to the publication, the pair had primarily kept quiet about their impending baby due in the spring of the following year.
Their Second Child
However, Gere and Silva were overjoyed to eventually announce to the world that they had given birth to a second child in April 2020. The baby was once again a boy. The new parents then returned to their Pound Ridge ranch home to begin bonding with their new baby.
What’s The Baby’s Name?
Despite their willingness to reveal the gender of their new child, there was one thing the couple kept hidden. As it stands now, no one knows what the youngster’s name will be. Although the birth had been confirmed in April, no one knew for sure when it had occurred.
Their Other Kids
This isn’t the first – or even the second – time the new parents have had a child. Gere has an older son, Homer, who is now an adult, whom he fathered during his marriage to Carey Lowell. Silva also has a son named Albert, whom she fathered during her previous relationship.
Silva Talked About Wanting Another Child
And it appears that the couple had wished to have a child for a long time before Alexander arrived. Silva actually told Hola! in 2015 that she really want to have a second child. It’s no surprise, then, that she now has three children! Gere has also been overjoyed to welcome his third child.
Being A Father
Despite the fact that now being a father at such age might be predicted to worry Gere, this is not the case. However, it turns out that he was unconcerned about it. When The Sunday Times in the United Kingdom asked him a question, he responded quickly and succinctly. “Not at all,” he replied. “No,” she says.
Gere Isn’t The Only One
Of course, Gere isn’t the only Hollywood star who has become a father at such an age. Of course, Charlie Chaplin holds the record, having given birth to his son Christopher at the age of 73. Robert de Niro was also older than most, having given birth to his daughter Helen Grace in his 69th year.
Talking About His Son
Being a father for the second time hasn’t made Gere forget about his first child. He told the publication Bang Showbiz NZ about Homer all-around time he welcomed Alexander in 2019. “He’s very sweet, very sensitive, very smart. He’s smarter than me, stronger than me, faster than me, taller than me, better than me. He’s great. I love him.”
Love At First Sight
So Silva has brought a lot of new people into Gere’s life, including two sons. And the star is taken aback by the romance. When asked if it was love at first sight by Bang Showbiz NZ, he agreed that it was nstant from his side. “I instantly became happy just looking at her. It was one of those powerful things,” he said.
His Early Life
Gere was born in Philadelphia and grew up in the state of New York. He attended Syracuse High School, where he demonstrated a talent for gymnastics. His talent earned him a scholarship to the University of Massachusetts Amherst, but he never finished his philosophy degree. Instead, he took to the stage, where he began his career as a repertory actor.
Being In The Entertainment Industry
Gere also had cameo roles in 1970s Hollywood films. But it wasn’t until 1978’s Days of Heaven and 1980’s American Gigolo that he broke through. He never glanced after that, featuring in a string of huge hits like An Officer and a Gentleman and Pretty Woman. In 2002, he won a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award for his acting skills in Chicago. Gere’s name also appeared in the tabloids from time to time.
His Affairs
That’s because, before marrying model Cindy Crawford in 1991, he had affairs with actresses Penelope Milford, Priscilla Presley, and Kim Basinger. True love, on the other hand, did not go as planned for the actor. Crawford was his wife for only four years. Then, in 2002, Gere married Carey Lowell, a former Bond girl, and stayed with her for more than a decade before divorcing her.
Growing Up As Methodist
The actor has also made headlines because of his religious beliefs. Gere, who grew up as a Methodist, was drawn to Tibetan Buddhism in his twenties. Meeting monks and the Dalai Lama only fueled his enthusiasm, and he eventually became a Tibetan Buddhist. As a result of his activism on behalf of the Tibetan cause, he has been barred from entering China.
Silva’s Life
Silva, on the other hand, was born in the Spanish region of Galicia. Despite this, she lived in Madrid, where her father, Ignacio, was vice president of Real Madrid, a legendary soccer club. Silva worked in marketing for a company in the aviation industry in her early twenties as well.
Growing Up
Silva, on the other hand, did not spend her entire childhood in Spain. In fact, she received her education from a school in Dorset, England. She then returned to her home country to study marketing and advertising. She has put her talents to good use not only in the business world but also as an activist.
Supporting Causes
Yes, Silva has found many causes to support because of his strong belief in human rights. She was, for example, a co-founder of the Beautiful Life Fund with Czech model and actress Karolina Kurkova in 2007. Silva went on to work with Real Madrid’s African Initiative Project a few years ago, organizing soccer tournaments to help disadvantaged kids integrate into societies.
Her Past Relationships
Silva, like Gere, had adored and lost before reuniting with the actor. She married Govind Friedland, a mining millionaire, in 2012. Silva had purchased the Hotel Villa Treville that she was handling in Positano on the Amalfi Coast of southern Italy with Friedland when she and Gere met for the first time.
Ted Danson
Gere isn’t the only well-known celebrity to make major revelations. Take, for example, Ted Danson. Danson was going through a rough patch in 1993. He’d recently left Cheers, the show that had made him famous, and was now at a crossroads in his career. To make matters worse, his second marriage had just ended. Then, while filming the adventure film Pontiac Moon, Danson met Mary Steenburgen for the first time. And it’s safe to say that the two got along swimmingly, as they’ve been married for nearly a quarter-century. But how does the actor feel about his wife in real life? When he was speaking with an interviewer, he decided to drop a major bombshell.
Being Married
Yes, Danson and Steenburgen have been married since 1995, despite the actress’s claims that she had given up on relationships earlier. However, shooting Pontiac Moon seems to really change Steenburgen’s thoughts, and her role as Danson’s wife in a pivotal canoe scene proved to be the deciding factor.
Remembering One Sweet Moment
Danson remembered this moment with his future wife to Closer in 2018, saying, “We paddled in sync. We went out as friends, and by the time we came back, we were in love… Ironic how life works in those moments. Once you throw up your arms and surrender, a lot of times things come your way.”
Before Entering Entertainment Industry
Danson lived in Flagstaff, Arizona, long before he became a Hollywood star. Even though his archaeologist father, Ned, was the director of the Museum of Northern Arizona, the Danson family was not wealthy.
His Childhood
“The unspoken message I got as a child was that we had nothing,” Danson told AARP The Magazine in 2017. “We didn’t have TVs. I looked like a ragamuffin. My clothes were all hand-me-downs. My dad worked, and there was enough money for the necessities, but getting more and more money was never a goal.”
Growing Up With His Few Friends
“People don’t really know this about Ted, but he grew up with friends who were either Hopi, Navajo, or the sons and daughters of ranchers,” Steenburgen told the publication about Danson’s childhood. “And he had enormous freedom to just explore and appreciate the vast, idyllic landscape around him.”
Started With Nothing
“[Ted’s] got a very strong sense that life means more than the number of roles you’ve played or how much money you’ve made, and I think that comes from experiencing the world a certain way when he was very young.” Being poor didn’t mean Danson had a terrible childhood. “There wasn’t a day that went by that I wasn’t told that I was loved in one form or another,” he said.
His Interest In The Environment
Danson developed a strong interest in the environment as a child, which led to an unusual form of activism. He began “billboarding” – or assisting in the dismantling of advertising campaigns he saw around him – with his friends. Danson is now on the board of Oceana, a sea preservation charity, as a result of his wanting to defend the world.
Career In Sports
And, if things had been different in Danson’s life, he might have pursued a career in athletics. Back in the early 1960s, the future NBA star was a standout player on his prep school basketball team. Drama, on the other hand, drew his focus for the very first time while he was at Stanford University. He received a bachelor’s degree in the discipline in 1972 after shifting to Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
Started From The Bottom
However, Danson’s acting career did not take off right away. He began his career in soap operas, starring in roles on Somerset and The Doctors. He also appeared in cologne commercials as the “Aramis man” and made cameo appearances in a number of popular TV shows at the time.
His Role As A Bartender
The actor’s breakthrough came in 1982 when he was cast as handsome bartender Sam Malone in the popular sitcom Cheers. Danson became a household name as the show’s ratings risen. The star was also rewarded with a pair of Emmys and the same number of Golden Globes for his efficiency.
Being In The Big Screen
During his Cheers tenure, Danson also appeared on the big screen, most notably in the 1987 comedy Three Men and a Baby and its 1990 sequel. And he’d amassed quite a resume over the years, with roles in films like Body Heat, Getting Even with Dad, and Saving Private Ryan.
His Talent In Acting Was Showcased
Danson also demonstrated his dramatic abilities in the 1984 television film Something About Amelia. However, as evidenced by the success of his post-Cheers sitcom Becker, comedy appears to be the actor’s forte. In 1999, Danson was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, arguably the highest honor in his field.
His Philosophy
When asked about his long career in show business, Danson told AARP The Magazine, “My philosophy is: don’t hang on to whatever degree of success or celebrity you have. Find the smartest people you can and work with them – even if it means taking a smaller role. Get lost in something that inspires you. Find the people who can make you a better person. That’s how you stay fresh.”
Working With Other People
“In my case, I’m working with the most creative people in the world, and they have a project they just have to do come hell or high water.” the star continued. “I want to be part of that. If some writer gets hired to make something for Ted Danson, they won’t have the same degree of creative passion.”
Getting Back On His Feet
That isn’t to say that Danson hasn’t had his share of setbacks throughout his career. But he’s bounced back; after the failure of his sitcom Help Me Help You, he received critical acclaim and a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for the TV movie Knights of the South Bronx. In Damages, he was nominated for an Emmy for his effectiveness as Arthur Frobisher.
Another Success
Danson was admired yet again in another sitcom, Bored to Death, with critics hailing him as the series’ high point. More previously, the veteran actor has wowed audiences with roles in CSI, Fargo, and The Good Place as repentant demon Michael.
His Lovelife
Danson’s romantic life, however, has had its highs and lows behind the scenes. In 1977, he married producer Casey Coates after an early marriage that ended after half a decade. While the birth of the couple’s daughter, Kate, should have been a joyous occasion, it instead resulted in tragedy. Coates suffered a stroke while in labor, deciding to leave Danson to raise his daughter while also assisting in his wife’s recovery in the following years.
His Affairs With Some Actresses
Danson also had an affair with actress Whoopi Goldberg while still married to Coates. This unfaithfulness, unsurprisingly, played a role in Coates’ subsequent divorce, with the actor apparently receiving a $30 million compromise as a result of the split.
They Eventually Met
Danson, on the other hand, would eventually meet up with fellow actress Mary Steenburgen. She was born in Newport, Arkansas, which is perhaps best known for being the home of Walmart founder Sam Walton’s first job in the retail industry.
Her Wife’s Early Life
Steenburgen studied drama as well, at the nearby Hendrix College in her case. However, she moved to New York after gaining a spot at the Neighborhood Playhouse. Steenburgen worked on her craft while working part-time at a restaurant chain called The Magic Pan and at the publisher Doubleday.
Life Being A Celebrity
When Jack Nicholson ran into her at Paramount’s New York office, the aspiring actress would get her chance at fame. After that chance meeting, Nicholson cast Steenburgen in Goin’ South, a Western he directed in 1978. Steenburgen then starred alongside future husband Malcolm McDowell in the film Time After Time the following year.
Being Married To McDowell
Yes, Steenburgen and McDowell were a perfect match, and the two married and had two children together. Their relationship, however, was not meant to last. In 1990, the couple divorced after ten years of marriage.
Her Career
Professionally, on the other hand, Steenburgen was on the rise. In 1980, she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Melvin and Howard, which was only her third film. Cross Creek, released in 1983, was also a critical success for her. Steenburgen took on arguably one of her most well-known roles as Clara Clayton in Back to the Future Part III at the urging of her children.
Playing The Lead Roles
Eventually, Steenburgen formed herself as a versatile character actress who could star in films as diverse as What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and Will Ferrell’s Elf. She would return to the big screen with Ferrell in 2008’s Step Brothers, and she keeps going to do so to this day.
Her Career In Music Industry
Steenburgen’s career hasn’t been limited to the silver screen. In the 2010s, the actress starred in the FX dramedy Wilfred, and TV viewers may identify her from shows like 30 Rock and The Last Man on Earth. The actress’s foray into the musical world was also a huge success.
Being A Songwriter
Steenburgen had a strange side effect from a surgical procedure in 2007: she was able to hear music. After figuring out how to transcribe these songs, the movie star went on to pursue a new career as a songwriter. She now has lots of compositions under her belt, as well as a deal with Universal Music.
The Only Man Beside Her Ever Since
Steenburgen, on the other hand, has only had one man by her side since 1995: Danson. This was despite the fact that the actor was going through a rough patch at the time of their first meeting. Danson had recently divorced Coates and was on the verge of breaking up with Goldberg when he shot Pontiac Moon.
Having Danson By Her Side
Steenburgen, too, had been going through some difficulties, so finding a friend in Danson was a welcome relief. She’d never fully recovered from her difficult childhood, which had been marked by adversity, not least due to her father’s health problems.
Her Trauma
“I spent my childhood waiting for my father to die,” Steenburgen told Country Living magazine in 2018. And, even as a mother, she was still dealing with the trauma of that period. Then the star discovered Danson, and she was able to finally put some of her demons to rest.
